"There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—" Ecclesiastes 3:1
A set time to worship God in your church/prayer room is not a time to start drinking coffee or eat. God still wants you to reverence His presence and draw near. A time to preach and listen to the word of God is not a time to have a cup of tea, go on your phone and surf the internet, eat, drink and be merry. A time for prayer is not a time to start checking the news. We are living in the world where much distraction is coming to us through our cellphones and electronics and this way, we are unable to hear God properly. We are being bombarded 24x7, my cellphone is always telling me, "check the message... and everything is urgent..." In the house of God, where we are supposed to be closer to Him, we are instead drawing further and further from God like Martha and we are not feeling the presence of God.
In Luke 10:38-42, sister Mary and Martha had a rare chance to be visited by the King; not any other king but The King of kings, The Lord of lords - Jesus Christ. Jesus was in their midst, both sisters had equal chance to be with Him, spend time with Him and personally hear Him - whose word give abundant life! But only Mary had the revelation that Jesus was the only one thing worth being concerned about and she sat at the feet of Jesus. Only Mary benefited from that encounter and it is because she discerned the time and used the time for what it was meant for. The time to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to the Word of Life, Martha used it to work and for distraction of other things.
Possible to Be in the Presence of God, Yet Far From Him?
When a king visit you, you set everything aside and sit at the table with him. You bring your problems to the kings and he solves them. You ask him questions and he answers. So Mary had this revelation and she sat at the feet of Jesus listening to everyone of His word, but Martha went the way of distraction. "But Martha was distracted with all her preparations." Luke 10:40
Martha missed a lot. The work, the distractions, though seemingly good and often justified, they drew her away from the Lord, she became dry, she could not have the joy of the Lord, she went in the flesh. The Bible tells us that she was worried and bothered. Mary went into the flesh. That's what happen when instead of getting in the Word of God, we go the way of distraction, read the news instead, play games... [God's children should cease playing electronic games, they suck the fire and the power of God out of your life... render people dry and take them backwards]. When this happens, we reap fear, we draw further from the Lord. Instead of hearing God's voice, we hear the enemy's voice and begin to accuse. and Martha came up to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”
In distraction, Martha began to hear the voice of the enemy. She began to accuse Jesus and pointing fingers. She became jealous, angry and began to manifest the fruit of the flesh. Had she sat at the feet of Jesus, she would have heard the Word and walk by the Spirit. He who read the word of God diligently connect to the Spirit and live and walk by the Spirit for the Bible says, "My words are spirit and life." When you read the word diligently, you connect to the divine.
The Word of God is living. To benefit from the word of God, put away all distractions, draw near and read His word diligently. Even if you are a Christian and in the presence of God, the word that is being preached or heard will not benefit you if you are distracted. So now is the time to put away all distractions and read the word of God without our electronics buzzing every minute. Now is the time to Focus.
If you are a prayer warrior, the devil will not stop you from going to the house of God. He will let you go to prayer but that does not prevent him from planning against your time. When you are in God's house, prayer room... push Focus and keep your notifications on silence!
It is time to know the time. It is time to discern the time. When you discern the time, use it properly. If you do not discern the time, you will suffer loss. A driver who sees the red light hit the break and the car stops. If the driver is distracted and miss to stop at the proper time, he could suffer loss.
You need to know how the enemy is working in our technology world. The devil is stealing our time by throwing worhtless distractions before our eyes and surprisingly, we are letting him distract us.
Let the time to pray be the time to pray - Do not say, well I can pray and be on my phone, I can multitask. Keep the distraction outside the prayer room. When it is time to worship, reverence God and worship Him with all your heart. John 4:23-24 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
TECHNOLOGY HAS POWER TO SEPARATE YOU FROM GOD AND STEAL YOUR SALVATION
One day I had an encounter with the Lord. The Lord took me to heaven. Naturally, I have short hair and I had a cellphone to record the encounters. In heaven, I had long hair with ribbons in it. I was dressed in a beautiful gown like a bride. In heaven, I could not see the cellphone however, for the Lord had turned it into a beautiful rose. I asked the Lord why it looked like that, He said He decided to turn my cellphone into a beautiful rose because, He said, "I do not like cellphones!" How can He like them when often times they steal us from Him, when they stand in between us? If you keep track of your cellphone, you can see how many hours you spend on it everyday, and then compare with how many times you spend with the Lord in prayer, worship or the word everyday.
Keep the time for prayer the time for prayer Keep the time for Bible study the time for studying the Bible Use the time properly - Follow Ecclesiastes 1:1-8 Put God first and do not let the phone control you. You control the phone.
Let the time be used for what it is meant for. Even if you are in the same room with Jesus, even if you are in His house - you will not be able to to hear His voice if you let yourself be distracted by those other things. Let us not make poor choice like Martha but keep the time to read or hear the word the time for the word. It has been written that there are those who heard the word of God but it did not profit them,
Hebrews 4:12 says, "For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard."
When you read the word, you are reading Jesus who is the Word. When you read, stay focused. If you don't focus, you resist the Word and a wall will be build between you and God. Before reading, pray first and ask God to help you stay focused and understand His word. Read. Focus and practice, only then, will the word of God change you. Only then will the word of God pierce your inner being and heal you and accomplish mighty deliverance for you.
I have prayed that God help you to overcome and use the time properly.
Ecclesiastes 1:1There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every matter under heaven—
2A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
3A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
5A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
6A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
8A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.
Amen Pastor. God was speaking the same message to me today. Prior to reading this, when I woke up from a nap He said, “How are you spending your time? Your life in heaven is a reflection of how you spent your time on Earth.” Thank You, Lord for teaching us.
